At The Endocrine and Diabetes Centre, we are specially trained at diagnosing and managing diseases related to imbalances in these hormones or malfunction of these systems.

With this rapidly expanding field, we have an in-depth understanding of hormone pathways, the discovery of new hormones and their actions.

We welcome new referrals, and provide ongoing care to patients in Melbourne and regionally.

We offer appointments at two Melbourne locations: Malvern and the CBD. We are also able to consult via Telehealth if this is a more convenient option for you.

What is Endocrinology?

Endocrinology is a branch of medicine that focuses on the study of hormones, secreted from multiple glands that make up the endocrine system. Endocrine glands secrete hormones straight into the bloodstream. Hormones act as chemical messengers, travelling through the bloodstream to have an effect on target organs. Hormones also help to control many body functions, such as growth, metabolism and reproduction.

The endocrine system is a complex tightly regulated system that keeps the hormones and their effects on different organ systems at just the right level.

About Dr Kavita Kumareswaran

Director & Endocrinologist

Dr Kumareswaran founded The Endocrine and Diabetes Centre, Melbourne.

She undertook specialist training in New Zealand and the UK. She was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2012. Kavita completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge in 2012. Her research focussed on testing a closed loop system of insulin delivery in people with type 1 diabetes. This ‘artificial pancreas’ uses real time continuous glucose monitoring to automate insulin pump delivery. This was a unique opportunity to study alongside internationally renowned medical scientists. She gained new skills and knowledge that she has been able to translate into clinical practice in Australia.

Kavita has an ongoing appointment as a visiting endocrinologist at The Alfred Hospital, where she established the insulin pump clinic, and continues to consult in the diabetes outpatient clinic. She has published in several peer-reviewed journals, received a number of research awards and presented at international medical conferences. She is an Adjunct Lecturer at Monash University, and is involved with ongoing diabetes clinical research.

She is committed to delivering exceptional care that is evidence-based. She engages patients to take an active role in managing their health. She provides continuing, long-term support and care for all of her patients.
